Leggy broad bean plants
before planting out in the veg plot.  Would they grow up from the bottom or should I just stake them as they are?  Advice please (I am very much a 'novice' veg grower but am really trying to extend my range.  Had some success with cabbages and sprouts by Poppy's Mum

strawberries, spring onions, garlic& tomatoes
hi all, im a new mum and want to grow as much as i can to feed my son. im pretty new to this however everything ive grown in the past my dog decided eat! Because of my dog and my soil is really clay based im doing everything in pots or baskets as i by realnewbie87

Late seed sowing
Recently checked the dates in the past when I sowed carrots, Beetroot, spring onions, etc etc. A few years I did that in mid Feb but mostly in first week in March. I used cloches and fleece and had runner beans growing under home made poly tunnels by Verdun

growing and we have learnt a few things For example thin out carrots or you end up with something out of a biology lesson. we lost all our cabbages red and white to a catapillar and his 3 million relatives and I was so looking forward to the red by evergreen gardener

) As soon as they were sown I fleeced the bed completely and left in on the whole time, only pulling it back to harvest as I needed. No carrot fly damage AT ALL yippeeeeee!! and the most wonderful, tasty, carrots I've eaten for years :) I'll be growing by Estelle the inept

Digging a vegetable Plot
drainage, it's also cheaper and you can get a massive bag from a builder's merchant.  Carrots in particular love free draining soil, so add plenty of sand (a 50/50 mix) to the area you want to grow carrots in.  Any compost you can add to the soil (even by Jayn

What not to grow
out of the ground and tasted of nothing when cooked. Now you'll be thinking it's just me, but I grow lovely carrots, tomatoes, courgettes, chillis, peas, beans, parsnips, potatoes and salads. I just can't seem to be successful with anything more by Green Magpie

of tiny grapes on it, but mine have never reached anything like maturity. Hope you saw Monty's feature on carrots last night. He was telling it as it is - often a complete failure. Best to get your food from a supermarket, and grow veggies, or vines, just by David K

but then were almost all decimated by blight. I've only had about 10 little tomatoes from four plants, despite around 15 trusses in total. Try growing carrots in large pots. I've done that this year and have had an excellent crop. by Lorna
