Talkback: Top of the veg
Last summer I tried to grow carrots for the first time. I grew them in a large plant pot on the path, they grew to about finger size and then something upturned the pot and ate them but left their tops. Could it have been a badger as the pot was too by Karl W

Veg to sow in February...
as old boots Darlo John. Found paper pots excellent but now use toilet rolls for pea's and beans. The cleaning lady at work saves them in exchange for a selection of flower seedlings in the Spring. Envious of your carrots, can't get them to grow longer by Zoomer44

New gardener new raised bed
over.  In fact, if you are growing carrots, you can keep them covered all season, the water and air get in but the dreaded carrot fly doesn't.  Ah! Thank you Bookertoo. No I didn't harden them off. They are much perkier now with lots of sun. I will do by Sinevegas

what to intercrop with squash?
Hi, I've planted up 5 or 6 squash plants in a 2x1m raised bed.  They're still little plants as yet, which leaves quite a lot of soil bare! What could I intercrop with them? Would beetroot / carrots be quick enough, or would they get shaded out by General Disarray

Talkback: Small trees as hedging plants
's really quite attractive but need to know what to do with it. Looks like it belongs to the carrot family but its not a carrot - I have pulled some up. Not as spiky as Love-in-the-mist and no sign of any flowers yet. I'd like to post a photo but not sure by sandie

Growing veg with little space
Can I realistically grow much in containers? I don't have much luck with tomatoes so thought I would stick to salad leaves etc, but also love carrots, cucumber, onions, sweet peppers, courgettes and beetroot in particular. I've bought varieties by laarobbins

Gigantic courgette leaves
carrots are the same. Loads of greenery but no sign of carrot and they should have been ready to eat weeks ago. Can anyone offer any suggestions please. Thanks Hi, everything's behind this year as it's been so cold - low light levels have also slowed by lucy33
