Is there anything that can go in now for an autumn crop ?
onions, garlic and some brassicas over winter. (I don't know which exact varieties but hopefuly someone on here will point us both in the right direction). Anything quick growing-salad crops perhaps-radish ,lettuce etc beetroot would work, carrots might by blueberry77

Green Manure
peas from the supermarket, cheap and handy. French beans are another suggestion. you can still grow salad crops such as lettuce.carrots,spring onions, peas,beans,turnips (milky ones) I would also put some potatoes in for a christmas harvest. what have by bobloes

p.s i only grow veg turnips cabbage/sprouts/broc/caulie/punkings/leeks Brassicas do not like newly manured ground. Peas/ beans etc do. Don't plant carrots or parsnips there. They will all split into many fingers. Only plant them in beds that have by shaunandnicola

Stony and hard ground
I would love to grow a few vegetables and fruit but the ground is hard, stony and full of grass, weeds and moss. Apparently it probably has never seen a spade in it's live and neighbour reckons I'll end up with a sore back if I try and dig it over by Chickenmama

.....already growing in trays.Love all summer crops...carrots raw, beans raw rhubarb raw.The veg garden can look good too, as obelixx said, with red Beetroot alongside fresh green lettuce and rows of feathery carrot tops.All without pesticides, slug pellets ....just by patricia nicholls
