Maggots in veg patch
garden center. It is true the menure needs to be old and well rotted / have no smell . I have a suggestion to make, some people grow in pots to eradicate the problem - but youd still need to keep check , a friend of mine grows in old tyres his carrots by cupcakesarah

New to this site
veg and flowers from seed? I have a small lean-to greenhouse and a plastic one as well. I grow all my veg and most of our flowers from seed, sometimes with success and sometimes not. Tomatoes (Sungold), carrots, courgettes and swiss chard did extremely by Pepperted

Containers for growing vegetables
I'm new to growing vegetables in containers and am wondering if there are any issues in terms of taste/metal contamination around using tin, stainless steel or aluminium that need to be considered. I'm thinking of carrots in my old tin bath by Sarah Quinnell

I give up!
I've got a big, L-shaped, 80cm deep raised bed I built two years ago in my small back yard, specially to grow vegetables.  It has a 2-storey house to the south, and walls all round, so in winter it gets no sun, but in summer is a suntrap, so I also by francesmhendry

you have to be very vigilant. My best success is growing tomatoes in big pots - they do escape blight that way should it be a good year for potato blight. Hi Marion, as usual you're a mine of info! Thanks. Can someone tell me if carrot leaves by lusia62

Raised beds depth
on. We have managed to grow a number of crops with some success including salad veg, beetroot, onions, some varieties of carrot, sweet corn and parsnips. On our recently acquired allotment, just down the road, we are having less sucess by movingpictureTV.com
