advise when I should harvest gourds, growing in my unheated greenhouse in W Yorkshire. Planted late, the biggest is only the size of a tennis ball, but I'm not sure if they will deteriorate as the weather gets colder, and I want to dry and varnish them by Lainey

Talkback: Autumn on the allotment
in this field. I have a patch of about 8feet by four feet. Can you pls advise me how to prepare the soil and what can I plant at this time of the year. I tried to grow some vegetables, but did not succeed excepet cherry tomatoes grew in abundence. Thanks by Kathryn

. will any small trees like my courtyard or will they give up the ghost and stop growing when they try to get their roots under the concrete? I am very keen to try the Prunus autumnalis for its dappled shade or possibly an amelanchier. I would love some by McNumps

it spreadinBg thanksBrian. I have clusters of eggs and black flys with red makings all over my cherry tree. Whole areas of leaves appear to be decimated by this. Anyone know what it may be and if there is a solution?Thanks. How do you prevent rust on hollyhock by B.Ward

toms & peppers (in a propagator) relatively late, i.e. mid-April, then housing them in the greenhouse till the end of May (I grow lots for a village plant sale). BUT this year, they've not grown strongly and are so TINY, I may only be able to charge 25p by oldchippy

WHAT TREES CAN BE PLANTED AND KEPT IN POTS ?
that the taller the tree, the deeper the roots want to go, which may be restrictive if they're in pots. As I have said many, many times, to everyones boredom I imagine - you can grow anything in a pot as long as you are prepared to put the work into watering by SULLY
