Under tree planting
but not full sun. I would say anything that grows in full sun, just be wary of the amount of moisture available though as the tree will take alot of it. Thanks Dave , could be trial and error then ... Goes from very wet (sloping field behind draining through by Bunny..

.  The cotoneasterwas in full flower by 9th May last year but this year it is nowhere near flowering. This will be the third year I have kept visual records of my borders to capture the beauty of the plants I choose to grow and also to help me make by Wintersong

Advice for a novice
for most things to start permanent planting.  Bulbs for spring need to start being planted end of August into September for daffodils, much later for tulips, violas are good now and may flower all winter depenedent upon the weather.   Evergreens by Stewart Forward

tulips not flowering..
gardenfanatic, Are these tulips left over from previous years, or did you plant them last autumn? If they are old bulbs, then it's quite common for fancy tulips to fail after the first year. Unlike daffodils and many other bulbs, they just don't like staying by gardenfantic

Where have all the hostas gone?
. The growing tips of Hosta are just out of the soil (shady position, windy hillside). In flower at moment - daffodils, primrose, pushkinia, chionodoxa, anemone de Caen, hellebores, erythronium won't be long. by dizzylizzy

Iris Katharine Hodgkin
with daffodils?  Reading Gardener's World mag from last April, Adam Pascoe says to lift and divide them as soon as they have flowered. Cut the leaves back to around a third of their length to stop the plant rocking in the wind. Thanks Freesia. Was the article by Gold1locks
