is that before I would grow it on the windowsill and now I grow it in the conservatory - which may tie in with what you are saying Italophile, it could be too hot?  I assumed wrongly that herbs loved heat - so in fact it is good news for me - I can easily find a by Lavande

Alternative uses for a shady raised bed
I have a lovely raised bed (about 12 foot diameter) which houses what's left of a lawn. The bed is half shaded by conifers, half sunny. The grass does not grow too well in the shady area, so I would like to do something else with this site. I would by Alison Trafford

's just a small town garden, with a raised bed - and too much shade! I've got things like ferns, a fatsia, hellebores, hostas in there at the moment - and I'm growing herbs and salad leaves in pots in the one sunny corner. I also have a severe slug by Show visitor

Square Foot Gardening
to grow some veggies. I'm doing this with my 4 year old son - he loves it!!!!  So far we have raddish x 2, spring onions x 2, beetroot, salad leaves, peas, dwarf beans - every week we plant a new couple of sqaures to keep him interested - it's great by cliffbutler

Growing Lillies in containers
up as they grow -like earthing up potatoes As they are small bulbs-all the same?-put them in a container say 8 inches in diameter should they be able to see light. i.e dont cover them completely and do i grow indoors? No -they are hardy-need to grow by David 25

Scented flowers
the colour as well.    My fave rave at the moment is Daphne bholua 'Jaqueline Postill', beloved by Roy Davison. It's a slow growing semi-evergreen that will get to 6ft. They are devilishly expensive (£30-60) but will reward you for weeks with their waxy very by David Hurrion

is new to growing veg! Thanks for the recipe Ruffy - sounds very simple quick and tasty. I tried Sophie G's risotto the other night and it was fab - I can totally recommend it! It's got loads of fresh herbs in it and very little parmesan so it's fresh by Ruffy

Autumn and what now?
