Soil Problem
I have a south-facing shaded border in my garden, where practically nothing grows, apart from weeds and my daffodils!   Last year I planted a hydrangea there. Within a short space of time it started to look sick, so I moved it to another border by Kerry Ward

When to prune Arabis alpina "snowcap"
? Some might be more fragile than others but if it's growing now it's probably fine.   I have hard pruned them before with good results. I have a pink one hanging over the edge of a planter which looked so pretty last year that I couldn't bring myself by hollie hock

Encouraging birds to the garden
hide.  In my old garden we had massive privet hedges which were full of birds but sadly we have no room for hedges now. The birds love our holly tree, and the ivy that's growing up the trellis.  As well as providing shelter, they're both great by cloud8

Deciduous
: Coniferous trees bear cones as seed pods. Deciduous trees have leaves and shed them in the autumn. Coniferous trees have needles, but  never completely shed them. Deciduous trees shed all their leaves and grow new ones in spring. Coniferous trees stay green by Cia
