Where have all the hostas gone?
. The growing tips of Hosta are just out of the soil (shady position, windy hillside). In flower at moment - daffodils, primrose, pushkinia, chionodoxa, anemone de Caen, hellebores, erythronium won't be long. by dizzylizzy

Are Hostas really for shade?
I have several Hostas in my garden - all growing under the dappled shade of my Japanese Acers.  One of them has a flower spike forming but it is the only one!  I have looked closely at the amount of light that may be going on this particular by Beverley Jones

Hosta flowering - shall I or shan't I?
I usually remove flowering stalks from my hostas so that they build up strong crowns - I grow hostas for their architectural leaves, not the flowers.    But, one of my Blue Angels is throwing up a really fat looking flower spike - shall I be strong by Dovefromabove

Plant for tub under carport - light but no sun
begonias grow in shade. If green then hostas, Brunnera Jack Frost; if purple, I have a heuchera Plum Pudding in a pot in shade, perhaps other varieties of heuchera as well. Hosta would be a good idea, and I could keep an eye out for slugs !! I will have by Mari Williams

Talkback: Bluebells, tulips and the Malvern Show
Can someone please remind me of the anti slug spray used by the Hosta loving lady on Gardeners' World 9th May Malvern Show edition? It involved 2 bulbs of garlic but can't remember what else. Hi Jo, here is Una Dunnett's Garlic Wash recipe by trealmac51yahoo.co.uk

hostas
I grow hostas in pots and have about 5.  Only 1 produced flowers this year, the others threw up a few weedy looking leaves and nothing else.  I feed with organic seeweed food and check for snails etc.  Any tips? Could they have been waterlogged by pinkjude

Hosta's
with the colour of Blue Angel - it could be a bit bluer for me. Dove, does the Blue Angel get a lot of sunlight ? After several years growing hostas in the garden soil and watching slugs debeautify them I dug every one up and put them into a collection of pots by Brumbull
