Talkback: Southern oak bush-cricket
the international Kite festival is "next door" on the Downs so we should see some spectacular kites flying way above the garden. A week-end treat not to be missed. Richard, my ivy thicket, now in flower, where my first generation of holly blues overwintered,is now by judyjenn

Composting
also take too long to compost, so I tend to burn all my prunings.  It's said that bay and eucalypt leaves shouldn't be composted as they contain a growth-inhibiting enzyme. Pity, because bays grow like weeds here in Tuscany. Anyway, I've never tested by Chris Norton

|Just learned a new trick
removed ivy from the wall after many years I found it difficult to remove those small wisps of root from the brickwork. Holding the pressure pipe at a very narrow angle to the bricks it removed and cleaned the bricks without water logging them, the chap by David K

decorative pots
plicata in your pot, it is a small slow growing Golden Conifer I have had some for years and they give a year round show for little effort apart from a light trim and a feed now and then. They like a slightly acid soil and the gold turns to bronze by pansy2

Planting to disguise very large fence
considering . Hi Clematis montana grows very quickly and in 2 years would probably cover the fence.  It is an early flowerer so another later flowing clematis or a honeysuckle might be good for more interest.  Don't discount ivy, great for wildlife by Nat4
