Digitalis illumination pink
Jist taken delivery of the new foxglove....digitalis illumination pink. Plants look good healthy and raring to grow so they were potted on with great enthusiasm. Hope the plants are as good as their hype.....I.e. Chelsea's plant of the show last by Verdun

Bee friendly plants for hanging baskets
 most wildlife-friendly plants! You could try herbs such as thyme, chives, rosemary, sage, mint and marjoram etc which are good for beneficial insects and useful in the kitchen.  Lavender is always a winner, and I found that the bees were attracted to gazania by Bowdeeka

plants are better value. Have a look at perennial wallflowers Erysimum 'Bowles's Mauve' or Lavenders, Hebes are good but a little boring. Hardy fuchsias. Daffodils are good value. I would also consider growing cosmos from seed. All hardy annuals are good by natalia85

Downie, the blackbids leave the fruit on the tree until the ground freezes, this is obviously their emergency reserve, I grow a lot of different lavenders from seed, other bird/insect magnets are oregano, rosemary and ecchium blue bedder,all have a by determinedpeterplant

Conifer Hedge dead or alive.
untrimmed at the place they are brown, or use them as a frame to grow a vine or creeper over rather than pulling them down.  I think they must be like lavender, once you cut past the live wood it won't recover. Thanks for this idea - they definitely weren by Larkey

Thanks for that. Can you give me any good tips on what perennials to buy for a large border.The border backs onto a beck with fields behind.It can be a windy spot. I have put in two buddlea plants ,fox gloves and lupins,lavender.I Phlox ,day lilies by lottyh40

then underplant with decorative low growing shrubs and edge border with something like lavender, depending on your aspect. It looks better if you don't have one solitary shrub but a group Verdun there's no lawn a 5ft hedge to the right so partly shaded size width by Andy19

Herbs dying
for fun last year...and finally two lavenders palnted out about 6 weeks ago have stubornly refused to grow.   When I've grown herbs in pots I usually just repot them in fresh compost - April May time with a slow release fertilizer but am mindful by jalcinto

some ideas for things thata might not have come naturally.  Mine are: bergenia, because its huge evergreen leaves show everything nearby off brilliantly (and snails eat my hostas). You do need huge clumps though. hardy geraniums, because they grow by auntie betty
