Infertile Soil
on raised veg beds I put horse manure on and nothing has germinated - could this be because too fresh..  Could I sew more lettuces etc now? hiya jenny in the autumn i would dig in as much compost, manure as you can.  for now just see what does grow by JennyB2

wire worm how to get rid
my potatoes which they love which made me think of a decoy. I just couldnt get lettuce to grow so i cut up a potato, got bamboo skewers from the cookery isle in my supermarket, I pierced the potato with the skewer and slightly buried it, using by andy young

Container gardening with children
have to wait. Personally -I would for for salad crops,lettuce radish etc at this time of year-quite easy and relatively trouble free-it depends on who is going to be doing the work Sugar snap peas are great for kids - don't take long to grow and you can by pinkboat

Baby lettuce plants
I've just bought a tray of growing baby lettuce leaves from the (blue and white) supermarket salad section. You are supposed to cut as you need them. As my own lettuce seed only went in on Wednesday, could I successfully plant some by Kathy 2

growing lettuce? RE; Kelly lamb i wouldn't recommend leaving your carrots uncovered until the frost has definitely past, they're tough cookies but not that tough. Also the lettuce you can sow any time depending on the variety buy heat resistant lettuce by Christine

Onions
I planted 4 rows of onion sets last October. They started growing normally before the cold weather set in, and stayed dormant over the Winter,as usual. I have just been down to my allotment to find the very tops of all the shoots have been eaten, I by RogerB2

Potato's again!
Hi I bought some potato seeds for Christmas and planted them into two compost bags the beginning of August.  They grew to the top of the soil and I filled it up again with about 12ins of compost they are growing out the top of the soil again, do I by Chris9

Strange 'growths' on lettuce and radish stems
looking growths on the stems. Many of the radishes have developed two bulbs as well, and the lettuce are stringy. I've shown a couple of friends who have been growing veg for years and they've never seen it before. I bought good quality compost from a by Michael Rogerson
