Common garden mint
Sounds like powdery mildew. It is a fungal disease and mint is susceptible to it.  Pick off all infected leaves and improve conditions.Your growing conditions may need to be changed. Powdery mild often occurs when a plant dries out - can happen by lily-larkspur

How to get rid overgrown mint

nepeta(cat mint) from seed
Ive grown cat mint from seed and although its growing well should i nip it out to encourage the plants to thicken up? I nip out a couple of the shoots, so that it flowers longer and it does bush out a bit more. I agree - would definetely nip out by weejenny
