Onions and garlic
I have a few autumn planting shallots, onions and garlic sets that I did not get round to planting. Will they grow just as well if I plant them as Spring sets? Does anyone know if they are different varieties? Any help would be appreciated. Richard by rmenmuir@btinternet.

Carrot fly
blighters! Keep a layer of fine horticultural fleece over them, my friend has had wonderful carrots since she started doing this. It is said that growing onions nearby helps, as the onion fly and the carrot fly get confused about the smells. Don't thin out by shaun_lincoln

Talkback: Seedlings and onion sets
and healthy, I have prepared the ground well 3 months ago with well rotted horse manure. We have erected white shade cloth over the beds. The air temp does get up into the late 30s, will they grow? Thanks for all your good tips. Hi I planted my onions in sept by Anonymous

spring onions
Why do my spring onions take forever to grow? I am still waiting for those planted as seeds last year to get to a size big enough to eat-  the seed packet said they'd only take 6 weeks- not more than 12 months! I have tried them in pots by MaggieL

advantages of grow lights fluorescent
Depends what you want to grow- but it has to be an economical proposition all my seeds onions tomatoes chillie etc and then cuttings Honestly- it doesn't warrant the cost for the ordinary gardener-it isn't just light you need but heat as well-the idea by Rick greenfingers

rotten potatoes
patch of ground. Brassicas i.e cauli, cabbage, sprouts, broccoli, swede. I'd be tempted to have a good dig around or you could end with more potatoes growing. A good acronym for remember crop succession is 'People Like Bunches Of Roses', Potatoes-Legumes-Brassicas-Onions by wendy 8

Talkback: Growing shallots
growing before they have to combat the army of slugs and other pests in my garden. I too love growing shallots. The red banana- shaped shallots look beautiful enough to grow in a flowerbed and grow as big as onions do for me. i have none left as I use by Chantal
