Talkback: How to grow peonies
this year, it did not bloom and all its leaves were red instead of the usual green. Other years it has been a delight. can anyone tell me what I may have done wrong? Surrounding plants in the border have thrived and been unaffected? will peonies grow by miss_lily

can you grow peonies in clay soil? If your soil is clay, then it is good for holding nutrients and water. It can be prone to get cloggy and water logged, so adding compost or well rotted manure to it will help keep it open. Peonies like the Ph by star3

Tree Peony
Trunk is approx 34cm with just 3 branches from it with an overall height of 158cm, a total of 16 large buds but very leggy, what should I do once it has finished flowering so it grows branches further down the trunk ?  I really don't want to lose by Pauline3

-skin covering the blossoms. If you don't have ants at blossom time the flowers won't open properly. are a beautiful plant that only grow with time. My peonies must have known I've been talking about them, no flowers on one which did flower last year by peony

Please anyone grown peony from seed
Hi my friends , I wonder please has anyone have any tips on growing tree peony's from seed ? Should I soak the seed first ? or have read that in hot countries you need to put seed tray in freezer to start off the germination.  I bought some seed by lucky3

Peony plants
Not sure if I am working this correctly. I have four peony plants that I planted as tubers. All four grew to about 2 inches high before the end of the summer. However, they have all died back completely. How long will it take for them to grow by JMcB

Help me to love my peonies
When we moved in three years ago there were a three large peonies: two in a slightly shaded bed, one in full sun.  I love the colour of the emerging shoots but we don't get many flowers and they flop over in a mass of foliage. Would splitting them by Laura Corin
