How should I shape my pittosporum
pittosporums ever year to. Rounded shape......Irene Patterson, Tom thumb, garnetti. I understand they respond well? I think any geraniums under planted will just grow up and smother pittosporum and still not flower. The purple pittosporum has green new by lennyboy

Evergreen fast growing shrubs
hedge form. The green and red foliage works well too! Pittosporum tenuifolium is a fairly quick growing evergreen that can also be used as hedging - hardy most places unless you live in Altnahara... Hebes, or what about holly? Lovely variegated forms by Neil Mumford

Sanbucus Black Lace

help with ornamental tree choice
I have a small paved front garden with a with a square of soil in the middle apx 1 sq.mtr and would like a tree or large shrub that flowers  and is attractive most of the year. Nothing that grows too big as it is only 1 mtre from bay window , any by Stevetheclueless

Evergreen bushes
answer if you can give a little more detail  South facing, against position in a sheltered position. An evergreen azalea or rhododendron will happily grow in a large pot whatever the situation. In sun choisya ternatta.....the Mexican orange blossom by Caz8

Front garden very uninteresting
cornus would also be good as they get pruned each spring to grow new stems for the fresh winter colour.  Alba Sibirica has the reddest stems.   Elegans has variegated foliage and burgundy stems.  Midwinter Fire has flame effect stems but can sucker when by Rosa carriola

is not large you won't be wanting any more big shrubs really I shouldn't think, although a favourite plant of mine Pittosporum 'Tresederii' - a Cornish bred plant, has dainty new young growth with small crinkly foliage, a little variegated, that would suit by chrissy in Cornwall

wrong ones. Taxus....yews....are tough, resistant to wind, drought etc. some lovely yellow varieties. my favourite conifers. I grow one called Coppershine....in spring it is a coppery orange and becomes bright yellow in summer. Purple pittosporum by * Red Dahlia *

. It looks sickly to me.On the other hand, I have a variegated pittosporum 'tandara gold' which I absolutely adore. ^ yes I like variegated Pittosporums' very much, Loxhill Gold, Tresederi, to name two, but prefer the silver leafed ones, like Silver Queen by Verdun

First Time Gardener Help!
but here goes only had time to go through first 37! 1. Hosta2. Box (i think can't really be sure from that pic)3. Pittosporum (again not totally sure)4. Bay? Check the leaves smell 5. Conifer - not good on my conifer id's6. Nearest is cornus, flowering by newgardengirl
