friendly garden you need a variety of plants that flowered from autumn to spring. Hi everyone. We have quite a lot of fences with ivy growing up them. The bees absolutely love the flowers which last well into the winter. ChrisX lovetogarden wrote (see) We by Cia

which plants would be best?
consider some evergreens, too, such as Euonymus fortunei, Viburnum davidii, Skimmia Japonica & Sweet Box, for example.  All of the above should be fine in heavy clay. I think that ornamental rhubarb might grow a bit big for the bed in that photograph by chellie

shrub suggestions
and the bees will love them. Daphne's...nice new one called Eternal Fragrance? Skimmias....in spring they attract a lot of bees here. Aconitums attract both bees and butterflies and add some height. I love perennials and grasses and now veer more to them by Bill Mansfield

Clay soil problem
and fertiliser but make your own compost to augment animal manure.  I can grow anything I want in my garden ,even things that like acid soil by careful placing of trees whose leaves break down to acidify the soil .  Start with robust plants like potatoes.  look by L0la
