mainly free of maggots. I feed the blue tits and other birds throughout the year with sunflower kernels which they carry up into the apple tree above to feast on this delicacy and can only assume that they dealt with the little bug...s for me! I will put by margaretm

. This year they are to be seen regularly eating form the peanut feeder usually in pairs. We live in Surrey and have acid soil with pines growing. There have always been flocks of twittering Long Tailed Tits. They are my favourite member of the tit family by Radarsmum67

Why the Gap?
it disconcerting it does seem odd in these days of technological wizardry. MD did say in his newspaper column this week that it was still ok to sow sunflower seeds so maybe there is a time warp in Herefordshire. Having seen it from the sharp end I do know by Lowenna

What annuals can I sow for summer colour?

FORKERS Sheds
labelled containers.   As it's one side of the patio, it's painted to look kinder on the eye and has flowering, pots in front with trellis on the side. Last year sunflowers were grown up the trellis and morning glory in the pots. Not sure what to grow by Brumbull

Invasion of the slippery slugs
/cider traps, salt, bran etc. But ... I have read a few articles recently about homemade garlic sprays for leaves which protect them from slugs/snails - I do intend trying this out as I've found that growing garlic around roses for the past 2 years seems by susan howard2

Why did you all start gardening?
helped my dad with the weeding and hoeing. Then when l was five l was given my own small patch next to the greenhouse where l would grow radishes,lettuce,a few peas l would always eat raw,candytuff flowers l would grow for the faeries to pick! My jobs by Busy-Lizzie
