, you don't have to worry about them in winter. Thankyou, we have started on the sunflowers. This year we are growing black sunflowers too which should be interesting. Think he would love growing a wigwam out of peas. Will give it a go. by amateur gardener

Personally I'd stay away from Nigella which now come up all over my allotment every year! im growing sun russain gaint sunflowers up and down mt plot on the borders there great massive bin lid heads plus great for the birds when they go to waste by Maria

Sunflowers falling over
hi, I have been growing a couple of sunflowers on my window ledge, they havent yet flowered, I only planted them roughly a month ago, my plan is to give em to my gran for her birthday in a few weeks. However, one of them fell over a couple of days by zibafu

Sunflower recommendation?
Each year me and my little boy plant giant sunflower seeds and compete to see who can grow the tallest (he always wins!). This year I'd also like to plant a couple of alternate varieties as well, perhaps something a different colour. Can anyone by LeadFarmer

they preferred the heads of the larger varieties.This year I'm growing Little Dorrit and watering them with dilute garlic to keep the slugs/snails off. I hope this works with the squirrels as well. Can you keep sunflowers indoors, by the window?I turn them by hereisabee

what to pinch out????
Hi, I have growing in small pots, sunflowers, sweet peas, & lupins all have sprouted well and have several sets of leaves, I'm unsure if I need to pinch out the tips and if so would I do all of 3 of types of plants. I wouldn't pinch put by notgreenfingers2

how do I get rid of them without necessarily using chemicals. Have googled and one site said use sunflower oil in a spray and must crush the adults and get rid of the larvae. I haven't tried the sunflower oil spray, but manual removal by Kernowmaid
