with many wild flower seeds) after which they germinated fine.  The problem is I can't remember if it was the verbena bonariensis or the oxe-eye's!!!! I also love VB and grow it every year but I have to say it has never self-seeded in my garden, the soil by quercus_rubur

Verbena and Russian Sage
except for the Verbena Bonariensis and the Russian Sage. Are these late starters, or could the frost have got to them? Did you plant bare roots, Dan? No, most of the plants were in 2 litre pots, including the verbenas and russian sage. The verbenas have by Dan 2

What plant is this please
a distinctive ridged square stem. But verbena normally grows a lot taller than 3 feet, more like 5 or 6 feet, so perhaps this might be something else I would agree Verbena bonariensis, a lot of my self seeded ones have only got to 3 feet this year by Poppy Red

More plants to identify - Stachys or not ??!!
to the one i have. The second plant sounds similar to a form of Verbena Bonariensis. Square stems etc. I have had stems of this family grow out of the top of a flower head and produce a smaller flower head which then continued on up. Hi yarrow2 and backyardee by fotofit

Plant cuttings?
fuschia cuttings last season, they are sometimes now big enough to provide you with more cuttings & thus effectively pinching out the parent plant (last yrs cutting) at the same time. Ditto penstemons & verbena bonariensis. Remember that any cuttings by Gardengirl..

What to plant around vegetablble patch?
.  Butterflies love shrubs like buddleia but they have to be kept well pruned each year. For late summer - and benefitting from the Chelsea chop - plant Sedum Spectabile which bees and butterflies love.  An easy plant and a good self-seeder is Verbena bonariensis by Tina_i_am
