of grit to keep the slugs off. I'm especially pleased with my newbie Patriot that I brought last year from B&Q with three stalks and this year there are eleven fingers!  I adore hostas but only started growing them recently because I was afraid of the slug by kate1123

Our David Austin roses threw out an arm of black spot (aimed at the eucalyptus) and it almost seems they fungally infected our euc as he had been fine for 3 years and was growing nicely into a tree. Does anyone else have experience of such a cross by violet green

Brussels sprouts
It;s my first attempt at growing Brussels sprouts and they're just not growing.  Should i water & feed them through the winter? Don't feed or water-the rain does that for you and there should be enough goodness in the ground When did you plant by Val8

Wild Garlic
Hi Everyone, I have been watching some cookery programmes and they have been using wild garlic. This plant usually has a white flower. In my front garden I keep getting garlicy smelling flowers growing, looks the same, but they have yellow flowers by Judith Richards

Cat Poo in the compost !
were you I'd try and pick it out rather than dig it in. If you are going to dig it into the soil, then I wouldn't be too concerned, particularly if you are growing ornamentals. I would be less inclined to use it as a mulch with the mess in it, generally by Shrinking Violet

to "pinching out"tomatoes - it all depends on the type of tomato that you are growing.  Those which are best trained to prevent them from using up their energy in side shoots, should have the shoots that develop where leaves branch from the main stem removed by Mizz

Bird feeders causing weeds?
We have a bird feeder station tucked into the corner of one of our beds. I fill this with peanuts, fat balls and BIRD SEED. In the surrounding area underneath a type of grass has started growing in the bed. I assumed it was dreaded couch grass by Surbiton_Margot

Mini Greenhouse - door open or closed?
cold frame and my placky one does the job.. If it rips then replacement covers are easily available   Have put in a request for an equivalent wooden one for my birthday though  I do all my growing in my coldframes, they are not the traditional by Wodufin
