Eelworm in Onions
did contain onion fly grubs, though we have concluded that they are a sort of 'secondary infection' because the plants are weakened) but they all have severely distorted foliage, flattened and wavy leaves, and are generally unthrifty. We wondered by Raven48

creepy crawlies in the soil on the allotment
cultivating your soil and nuke what you find as I do.  I always do at least an extra 3 of everything I put in and keep them in the tunnel or coldframe.  When I see a wilting plant I dig it up and 8 times out of 10 there's a chafer grub but the other times by pennypat

New home - Blank plot
important to wait a season or two to see what treasures, if any, there are - you don't want to grub out the one plant you have wanted for years and never knew was there.  Addd a few tulip bulbs to the patch you've already done.  You don't have to do it all by George F

Planting Oriental and Regale lilies
can always move the pot until you're happy with it. Keep your eyes open for the dreaded lily beetle, bright red, squash on sight, and look underneath for eggs (bright red also), the grubs are horrible beasties that cover themselves in their own poo by happycottontail

Beasties etc found in lawns
need a flock of starlings to come in and deal with them.  I love to see starling poking around in my lawn. The alternative is to treat the lawn in late summer with Provado Lawn Grub Killer - you'll find it in your local garden centre. Thanks by yarrow2

Talkback: Hens in the vegetable patch
of grubs and bugs. Lately they have made quite a mess on the borders and now that new growth is sprouting I have had to restrict them to and hour or two and only if I'm in the garden to keep an eye. They are very clever, they know that me digging means by hell
