Should I be hand pollinating my fruit trees?
't know about cherries but apples don't self-pollinate. In other words, you need pollen from one tree to fertilise the other, so it's good that both are flowering at the same time. I wouldn't worry - as soon as there is a hint of warmth the bees by Laura Corin

Pear tree
. Lots of us had no apples last year.  It was due to lack of bees to pollinate them.  The early heatwave we had encouraged the trees to flower, but then it went cold and the bees stayed at home.  You can try hand-pollinating them using a small, soft by preksha patel

Oh dear what can the matter be?
hardly any crop from my apples, pears and plums this year. If you still have any blossom (and you can reach it!), try hand-pollination using a small soft brush.  That may only work if you have other apple trees though, as most require cross-pollination by Judith Evans

whats wrong with my tree?
Hi all, I have a peach tree and a nectarine tree. Both are dwarf and in pots. They came as bare root trees a month or so ago. I potted them both up at the same time. The peach had many lovely pink flowers with I hand pollinated and is not leaved by Bill Mansfield

Chilli problem
cool for them to set.  It isn't unusual at this time of the year.  You could try hand-pollinating, using a small, soft paintbrush, cotton-bud or similar.  Just go over your chili plant(s) and gently dab it in the centre of every open flower. Drooping by Helga

Lack of Apple Blossom
the the cold and wet, so I wish I had hand-pollinated them all now.  Still, I expect a year off will do them all good (we gardeners have to try and look on the bright side, don't we?!) Thanks  Welshonion and Bob, Swings and Roundabouts this year then, at least by Budding G

Talkback: How to harvest cucumbers
certainly never knew you could harvest part of a cucumber and leave the rest on the plant - great idea - thanks I am growing cucumbers for the first time and I've been told that I should ensure the mail pollinates the female - even hand pollinating by danwiththetran

Sweetcorn
to mind. Though the corn does need a helpiing hand with pollination. Thanks everyone! I'll give it a go. If tomatoes and chillies can cope with the shade then brassicas should be OK. by PatsyC

Talkback: Apple blossom
apple looks particularly sad as the blossom is over, and the usual myriad of tiny weeny apples don't seem to be there.  I did a bit of hand pollinating a week or two ago in hopes of getting some fruit.  Luckily the trees are still in full flower and I by Bleeding Heart
