Frogs out of hibernation
9pm 10th Jan 2012 Northants. There are several frogs sitting on top of the pond. Isn't this way too early for them to be out of hibernation? They didn't disappear until end of November! I dont know when mine usuakky come out of hibernation by Madpinkflamingo

such diverse wildlife. I had PVC windows fitted a couple of years ago & although they are easy to maintain. I can't think of many other advantages over wood. They feel cold, where as wood gives a cosy feeling to a room. The hibernating critters seem to agree by Pippa Greenwood

"We never see butterflies in the garden" says my mother, then when cleaning out the log store over Xmas she finds two hibernating peacock butterflies. So they were there, we replaced them as best we could, the covered log pile seems to desirable by rudy bryan

I note with dismay that GW is going into hibernation mode after tomorrow's programme - whereas to gardeners of the 'old school' (like me) now is the START of the gardening year, the time for making plans, preparing the ground for next year's crops by yakram

solve a disposal problem?? I went for a walk on the Scarborough disused railway track and at a disused platform there where hundreds of snails hibernating on the wall uck! If I Lived nearer I would take some salt water. I just can't bring myself to kill by Anonymous

Bumblebees?
I was in Bolton last week and saw a queen buff tailed bumblebee foraging for pollen (which means she's starting a new nest) on some snapdragons that were still out. In the south a very few buff-tailed bumbles don't hibernate, while others just by Kate Bradbury

house for winter hibernation? After a busy morning on Thursday outside in the Botanic Garden, Kate, I spent the afternoon cleaning seeds in the hall which is called the potting shed there!  Lady birds were crawling out of the dried stems as I worked by Kate Bradbury

Have the slugs eaten my Hedgehogs
New to this, so bare with me, last year I had 3 hedgehogs who came in every night to feed, I built them houses and left branches and leaves about to hibernate also I don't use any slug pellets. This year I haven't seen a hedgehog or even a sign by primrose09

The mystery of the disappearing hedgehogs
or 6 in my little garden  at any time throughout the night.  Suddenly, a couple of nights ago, they have all stopped coming.  I have not even had one for the last two nights.  Is this normal behaviour?  It feels too early for them to be hibernating?  I by Lunarz
