fairly high setting. Spike the soil or hire an aerator and then brush lawn sand into the holes, this will aerate and improve drainage. If the lawn still looks a bit thin by the autumn, scarify and sprinkle some grass seed in late September and water by Peanuts3

Just up the road from you in Hassocks I think we have pretty well perfect conditions - the thick wealden clay is relatively easy to improve and it stays nice and damp at the bottom of the garden by the stream. The trees provide shade that sweeps by www.alittlesliceofeden.blogspot.com

of that later, is, the astonishing improvement  in pollination and fruit bearing around the hedges. The lavender, blackberries, raspberries, beans & etc, is such an improvment on last year. The honey, simply makes store bought stuff, quite inedible. The lotty by Peat Ballan

Clayey soil
please help i have diffent veg plants growing but i have clay soil in my garden what can i plant out into it. thank you   The best thing to do with clay soil is to improve it by adding grit, sharp sand and compost (any type), as clay is inherently by METAL MAN GARDENER

Cordyline Australis
I planted a Cordyline Australis about 3 weeks ago but it has started to look off colour with the tips turning dark. I have a clay soil but doug down deep and mixed soil improver for clay soils. The bottom couple of leafs are hanging down not looking by Terry Power

there's more. I throw it onto my clay soil, a bed a month slowly it's helping improve soil I put it on the veg bed, and some around the plants on the flower bed - mixed with organic chicken manure pellets. Me too Linda, hate to waste it and you're right by tom hewer
