Red Insects
I have in my garden soil very small, red ant like insects which appear when the soil is disturbed. They were confined to my flower beds but they are now infesting the lawn where they leave mounds of very fine soil where their nests are. Can anyone by Mortane8222222222222222222222222222222222222222222

Are astilbes poisonous to some insects?
Hi - I have got quite a few astilbes in my garden primarily because they were in a list I read of plants which are good for beneficial insects. However, they always seem to have several dead insects stuck to them. Not sure if this is a good sign by Lunarz

scale insects
Hi, Can anyone tell me what is the best (and cheapest) way to get rid of scale insects  ? I have already sprayed with a bug killer and we had two snowfalls inbetween, but it appears that they are still there in force. Thanks, Marion Hi by cheekymonkey68

Talkback: Scale insects
I use broad sticky tape to remove scale insects - more efficient than a thumbnail.Ants farm scale insects, so get rid of the ants and the problem will be reduced. To keep ants off a balcony organically (this may not work in a garden!) stamp on every by spottyleopard

Insect-proof netting
What is the best all purpose insect netting for an allotment, one which will be a barrier for onion and leek attacking insects? There is a 0.33mm mesh on the market but it blocks 20% of sunlight and presumably rain too. Is that too much for good by Sheila 5

Root destroying insects
My flowers are wilting due to small black insects. When I dig them up there are no roots left. They dont eat the flowers or leaves. Does anyone know what they are and how to get rid of them. A description of the insects would help - size, number by Sue31

scale insect on clematis
last year my clematis alpina 'Frankie' was covered in brown scale insects all up the stems.  I sprayed them with Provado, but how doo you know when they are dead??  They look dead anyway and they haven't dropped off.  Now that its the right time by armeria

Talkback: Insects and snow
not upset insects fans? I'm sitting at my computer and suddenly I hear what sounds like a moth, battering the light-shade. Standing precariously on a chair I spot the insect I thought was a ladybird a few days ago, in the bedroom. This ladybird, however by kaycurtis

Talkback: Hibernating insects
them as often as I'd like to. I have to say that it's mice we have to deal with rather than insects! We've had a few of them over the winter. If ladybirds like their hibernation site they (or their offspring) tend to go back to the same place year after by Pippa Greenwood
