Talkback: My garden shed
If you do discover old gardening 'goodies', including seed packets, tools and packets of other products then don't be too quick throwing them away. They could have historic value, and would be worth mentioning to the Museum of Garden History (Tel by Rhoda Dendron

Ideas for planters on patio?
We have bought two rectangular planters for our patio to sit under the kitchen window but have no idea what to put in them. We would like to use perennial cottage style plants (ideally purples/pinks) as with 3 children under 4, we do not always by LucyLocket5

Is there anything I can't compost?
instructions given out on what you must and must not do now that it is fashionable. You do need to have a mix of green (eg garden and kitchen waste) and brown (dry eg paper, cardboard, dry leaves etc) but don't get too worried about proportions or the size by Mummy Muddy Paws

Talkback: Fruit flies
little 'brown' matter. That is, too much kitchen waste and not enough garden stuff. The flies are attracted by the aromatics of fruit and veg fermentation so more dead leaves, corrugated paper and prunings may help dilute the fruitiness of the decay. Hi by Sheila

Spring Garden
all the old perennials out, only to find my tulip bulbs rotten in their baskets which I planted maybe 2 years ago!  I have heavey clay soil and as this bit of garden is visible from my kitchen window, I'd like a cheerful display from early spring by Snailspace

Talkback: Composting
, theres no better place for it, all the dead bean plants, kitchen waste etc and damped it down well with the accelerant and it is going well. I simply can't let a day pass without popping down the end of the garden and having a look inside the bins by Libby

Talkback: Diarmuid Gavin's Chelsea garden
agree with happymarion about making the most of a small plot, my garden isn't very big yet I've got so much packed into it. I've grown Lilac trees and Silver Birch in pots and use smaller plants. My gardening overflows onto the kitchen window sills, so by happymarion

Clarify the drought pls!
include regular hoeing in between plants so any dampness, dew etc get soak down to the roots and use plenty of mulch such as compost, old leaves or even gravel or bark chippings. Drip irrigation is allowed. See Kitchen Garden page 6, News You can use by JB1974
