Bee friendly plants for hanging baskets
As a very amateur (and newish gardeners) we have been trying very hard to get most of the plants in our garden bee and insect friendly and hope to convert some grass to wildflower meadow this year.  However I have been guilty of using non by Bowdeeka

and compost my kitchen waste and that of my neighbours. My worms don't care for onion skins or citrus fruit but process everything else and I crumble up eggshells to give them some grit. I feed them and the birds before myself. The productivity in my garden by Neil

Question for a calm winter moment
* economic- we can't afford to destroy the Earth Not to mention it is cheaper when I don't have to buy chemicals, pesticides, etc- just gather and recycle leaves, garden debris, kitchen scraps and an occasional load of manure.Organics is a way of life for me by ThaiGer

Ants
veg I bought from supermarket but Sotongeoff has made me think they might be "living" in the kitchen. I put little spray down and ants have gone.....I think. Never had ants in winter before. If the water table is high in your garden, they may by Lyndylu25

bolting seedlings
Whenever I try to raise seedlings on my kitchen window sill they always grow very tall and become leggy before they get their true leaves, and then they make weedy plants! Any tips out there? It is the light levels- a window sill is just by Kate Brown

lily beetle
I am planning my garden for the season.In the previous two seasons my garden has been plagued by lily beetle,my crown imperials were attacked and all my lilys.I have read that spraying sunflower oil on plants will help.Does anybody have any advise by sal3

Advice on where to plant my apple tree and suitable hedging
garden is putting a pitched roof on top of his garage  to create a bedroom. Also their kitchen window looks into our garden so my second issue is, what sort of hedging to plant ,I would like a fast growing and dense and also bird friendly. I would  really by pennymax
