Talkback: Lifting and dividing
bases.All have come through several frosty Nottingham winters with no protection, on clay soil. The only thing I want to lift at the moment is the flipping ground Elder that has encroached from my neighbours garden and the millions of other weeds by chilipops

which time of the year is the best to divide them. We now know how to divide in spring but what about Autum time as i have just divided mine as it had finished flowering. I have to agree with Mili some clarification needed for me-looks like Monty by ianhall

Assuming you are seeking advice , I would suggest it is short of moisture.  Ours was woody last year when we had a very dry spring.  This year it's very juicy. It may also be that your plant is getting old and needs to be lifted and divided by Attia of the Julii

I find I have to lift and divide primulas at least every third year else they disappear altogether. I open to "my public" for the very first time tomorrow so it can bucket down with rain from Wednesday night onwards. Wish me luck everyone, as I do by Adam Pasco

ago. I trimmed it just as though it was a hedge. But if you have a specimen plant, you obviously wouldn't want to do that. These plants are pretty resilient. Quite easy to lift and divide if you fancy some more. Despite its drawbacks, it does make a by Tim Burr
