The RHS advice is to divide these in early autumn, but by then the leaves have long gone and I am never sure where they are. Can I lift them earlier, like at the end of May, when I can still locate them, and dry / store the bulbs like I would by Gold1locks

pansies primrose primulas etc....
can lift the primroses and primula and put them somewhere shady to start again in rthe autumn. Once they finish flowering it is also a good time to divide them.  Hi Mike they are all hardy so will be quite happy in pots in a quiet corner of the garden by mike2li

the best time to lift and divide the clumps to make more of a spring show for next year. It doesn't take long for their foliage to die down and you can't expect them to make energy for next year's flwoers if you remove or knot the foliage.  The leaves are a by Whippet

Aruncus
the aruncus grows too big for that spot you can lift and divide it, and then you can move the fern too.   Maybe it is too dry, weird i know with all this rain ! A friend has a massive clump of it growing on the side of  her pond and into the water even, so by yarrow2

Peonies
, then switching to a gerneral purpose one. Totally agree with backyardee - Peonies hate being planted too deep.  You can lift and divide them easily - as I do regularly - and they'll just keep on doing what they do best so long as you plant them at exactly by yvonne parsons2

Are Day Lilies invasive?
.  If they'r ehappy the clumps get bigger each year but that just means you can lift and divide them and have more plants for your garden or to swap with firends and rellies. I have several forms in my garden and they're very forgiving, happy to grow in sun by Swedboy
