allium purple sensation and irises taking over my small garden
set seed will reduce the problem in future and it should be easy to pull up seedlings but how about potting some up and giving to friends etc.? Your irises sound like they are doing just fine too. You could lift and divide them in a year or so, search by franco6832

Leaving tulips in the ground
October/November and then, after flowering, the old leaves are cleared away and the patch mulched. She claims that there is no advantage to lifting tulips and that shallow planting encourages the bulbs to try to divide and thus weaken themselves by Charlie November

Astrantias not flowering
've done ok! I'm no expert but wondering if your plants need lifting and dividing to encourage more growth and flowers next year?? How old are the plants? Someone else might say this is completely wrong but just a thought?? Higgy http by christopher2

currently struggling through lack of rain. I would like to lift and divide them, do you have any advice on how/when to do this? Some orange zest is good with the cooked stems too. I've divided rhubarb several times in November, always successfully. Just dig by newbieplot

Plants for narrow border
, wearing a full-skirted summer dress.Within seconds, I was doing the can can all around  the garden, lifting my skirt in a most un-grandma-like way  while shrieking and attempting to give the bees ands hoverflies a way back out of the large tent which had by Berkley

bulbs throughout the seasons
't need lifting, dividing etc in early Spring, as this would disrupt my seeds. You can plant them now if available but there are not that many to choose from-can only think of nerine and autumn crocus off the top of my head Thanks Geoff. Won't they come up by Jess is in the Garden

plant support for crocosmia lucifer
. I did also buy the 1/2 moon wire supports from a garden centre too (v expensive for the number I need, so only bought one set). My hubby also thinks we planted the bulbs too high - so I am going to lift and re-bury one cluster deeper.   Crocosmia by suze2902

Talkback: Perfect hostas
manage to divide them and they are looking great. I have curled around the base some old bending copper pipe that was being thrown out so I may not have the slug trauma of earlier years. I managed to split and repot my hostas this year in good time by lorrie-koolkats

overgrown border
is matted with creeping buttercups which look lovely when in flower but on the other hand are a bit invasive! If the bed and plants/shrubs were smaller my instinct would be to take everything out and clean the bed as much as possible of the buttercups then divide by nightgarden

Favourite tools
end of an old spade handle I also find useful for holes for potatoes or leek planting or planting bulbs.  But when my small fork and trowel were lifted from the garden recently I could not wait to beg, borrow "not steal" them from friends by Kate Bradbury
