super strong hand trowel and fork you will get no where...my only solution was to lay cardboard down..and make a temporary raised bed,fill with manure and anuuals and the odd shurb and after a year the worms did what only a digger could and i can now get by Christine Bethell

the worms get on with it. Got a few feathered visitors too - after the worms I suppose. Alas I have no room for a compost bin but I munch up prunings during the year and store them in black bin liners, under the oil tank. They take between 12 and 18 months by Paul Narramore

Is there anything I can't compost?
the medium too acid for the worms. I put banana skins in, but some advise against this as they might attract rodents. Yes you can add manure - I don't think anyone would advise against that! Mixing the compost, in my understanding, improves aeration by Mummy Muddy Paws

Building a Compost Heap
I've been aquiring some wooden pallets so that I can follow this guide on building a compost bin. I was wondering, has anyone else here done anything similar and what are your thoughts on lining it to make it hotter? I tend to hoarde all by Rob Stevens

: remnants of egg casings from the snakes. In a recent programme on the Baltic states it was mentioned that these snakes were venerated and worshiped there. I feel privileged. It is amusing to see adverts and articles extolling the benefits of compost making by Estelle Bryers

Composter advice
compost you can make, assuming that your garden produces plenty of green waste but they take up quite a bit of room. Are you going to turn your compost or are you planning on filling it one year and emptying it the following year? I have a compost bin by Citygardener

Bark mulch
naturally be found beneath leaves, and dead bark. Blackbirds in my garden make a similar mess with any compost, or manure, put on the garden. They are searching for worms and grubs.Sparrows and tits, on the other hand, are seed feeders. So they don't bother by DavesBonnyLass
