We have about half and acre of meadow grass which includes the above.  Although weather permitting it is cut on a regular basis this particular weed spreads like mad - any idea's on how to get rid of it would be appreciated.  I am afraid by asperge

Wildflowers - to dig over soil before planting or not?
. Thanks! Personally, I can't see the point of destroying a habitat that exists, in order to create an artificial 'wild' habitat. On TV, a few months ago we did see a wildflower meadow, that was rotovated every year. To me, that makes for a lot of work by Barry Hayter

is far too fertile for meadow wildflowers to compete with grasses. I'm a big fan of hawthorn. It's unusual to find a hawthorn bush that does not have a bird's nest in it. The plant will be covered with blossom very soon, and covered with fruits by Autumn by kaycurtis

. Ours couldn't be called lawns, actually, because it consists of spring and summer wildflower meadows. Much more interesting to see cowslips, mini daffs and grape hyacinths in the spring meadow than just plain grass. And snowdrops, crocuses, trilliums by Lu

Rotovating Re-Claimed Land
I have recently purchased some land from the local council which has brambles and weeds around the edge and what looks like over grown meadow grass in the middle. I have cut the bulk of the brambles down and was going to dig out the roots and treat by Ian 2

. There is a pretty vigorous Buddleia population beside railway lines. They also provide good cover for all sorts of scuttling mammals. It would be quite an expensive option to seed all the embankments. Stunning and relatively straightforward:http://www.habitataid.co.uk/acatalog/Meadow by susan16pen
