Best runner bean
with the 'old boys' with those beans.  After the first flush I sprinkled a little potash around the roots and watered it in well - as I said the soil is very hungry and also they'd had a lot of nitrogen from all that manure.- after that there was no looking back by Verdun

. They need some sun every day. They need a low-nitrogen, high potash fertiliser. they are supposed to be drought tolerant and can rot if they are too wet, but in my limited experience they do better if they are fairly well-watered. Otherwise there wouldn by Bunny..

and running off/evapurating quickly and not getting down in the soil. Add some tomato feed to give them a boost of nitrogen. Oh Pete  - I was just about to say how relieved I am that nutcutlet suggests watering.  How do yours look?  Mine have very dry by Lavande

gravel bed/border ... replace with bark?
,good luck Alan/Kate Bark does rot down over time but then needs replacing so you have to factor that in as a continuing cost and chore.    Some people also worry about the rotting of wood depleting nitrogen from the soil but I think the levels would by djjjuk

onions by adding manure/compost available free at my site. I dig this in along with some Blood Meal (onions I find do better with lots of nitrogen). In August I sow seeds of Japanese winter varieties which I transplant and then plant in my prepared bed by kenneth

(north facing) approx. 40 sq. metres. I cannot wait for a dry day as casts are always wet due to shade. I pick up all mower cuttings. I have a strict regime for feeding the lawn. Winter low nitrogen feed to encourage root growth. Spring high nitrogen feed by BILLYC

importantly, what should I feed to encourage growth? I feed mine with a high nitrogen fertilizer in the summer to encourage leaf growth - I use sulphate of ammonia sprinkled round the plants at the rate stated on the packet and forked into the surface. I would by Lorrie Flannery
