longer (years if the wood is over a centimetre thick). The rotting process depletes available Nitrogen until rotting is complete when the bacteria and fungi (the rotters) die and yield the Nitrogen back to the soil. Laurel is only temporarily poisonous by compost

No flowers on Clematis.
that your clematis are getting too much nitrogen, hence the excess of leaves - when you look at the NPK values, the N value should be about half of the K to get the balance right. I agree with the feeding recommendation.  I use potato fertilizer on all my by Watermelonice

Feathers in Compost?
bottles of wee up to the allotment though... 'Course not, Sandra, no need to lug bottles. All you have to do is climb up on top of the heap and allow it to benefit from your nitrogenous waste. We'll all look the other way! Haha - I could put a seat up by Sandra 2

just starting to grow again now. I would not worry everything has been slow this year. A general purpose feed like Miracle Gro will add a lot of Nitrogen into the soil which in turn promotes leaf growth. So I guess you could use a small amount in a by ShropshireLass

veg patch
should be OK, it might be quite high in nitrogen from the dogs waterworks. I could suggest putting some lime down if you are going to grow greens but do not do this if your adding farmyard manure, these can react to give off ammonia. So use one by Martin5

blanketweed
of 'fertiliser' in the water however the water movement would make it harder for the blanket weed to get a good foothold  all types of algae hate water movement so moving water is benificial i would add a filtration pump to aid the nitrogen cycle and increase by rose307
