withvery  late delivery of onions last year, however, the customer service was excellent. I was kept informed on a regular basis via email and was given a selection of free leek and onion plantlets as compensation so although I had an issue I was happy by Hannah Bennett

Insect-proof netting
What is the best all purpose insect netting for an allotment, one which will be a barrier for onion and leek attacking insects? There is a 0.33mm mesh on the market but it blocks 20% of sunlight and presumably rain too. Is that too much for good by Sheila 5

Overwintered failures
Decided to try some autumn sown and overwintered veg this year. Started off OK with winter cabbage, japanese onions and broad beans. BUT cabbage did nothing and just then all died, onions more than half have suddenly disappeared, and all broad beans by blueberry77

Container potatoes and veg
Watched a couple of Monty's videos re growing spuds and shallots in containers....he had a bin for the spuds but just a metal bucket for the shallots.  Has anyone tried the shallots like this? Was thinking of trying it with shallots and red onions by Brycey D

Rust on veg leaves
have quite a few of our onion stems falling over......does anyone know what this is about? There is no evidence of any bugs etc eating or destroying the onion bulbs. We dug up an onion and it was healthy. Is it the severe rain perhaps or something more by Ady&CaroleAnn

Carrot fly
blighters! Keep a layer of fine horticultural fleece over them, my friend has had wonderful carrots since she started doing this. It is said that growing onions nearby helps, as the onion fly and the carrot fly get confused about the smells. Don't thin out by shaun_lincoln

onions I suppose! Actually you are correct in a sense in that once the flowers have finished, it would be a good time to dig up the dormant bulbs, split them up and replant in refurbsihed soil. Berghill wrote (see) It is a question on knowing ones onions by christine clarke4

Carrots
carrot, spring onion, parsnips, peas & beans, took longer. All are now blossoming - keep the faith. The weather plays a great deal in germination. I put some spring onions outside early april only just showing now. by Teresa McFarlane
