, they REALLY don't like their roots disturbed. I understand that poppy seeds can lie dormant in the soil for up to 10 years, and germinate best in disturbed soil, so where I have weeded they pop up, where I "forget" they don't.... I do so agree that poppies by Kay Fuller

trying to eradicate the figwort. I used to spend loads of money on seeds and compost to grow them in, but it's not neccesarily the seeds quality. i have found that I can not get any compost these days that does not have weed seeds in, or is of very poor by Lavender Lady

've read that they do like finely raked, weedless soil, so I've sown minein seed trays to begin with, hoping that this will give them a better start. I hopethis helps you a bit! What are the seeds in the mix? If I was growing perennials for planting by Bookwormy

Alstroemeria (Peruvian Lily)

down pipe so Marion's advice sounds spot on. Once established they seem to spread very readily (even under weed control fabric!) if happy. They also seeded around very freely as well and I transplanted some to other areas of garden. Thanks all, will pot by Rosa carriola

Encouraging bats in our gardens

few of the other plants listed though I suspect this winter will have taken out some of the perennials so I'll fill gaps with nicotiana. We have an SSSI just 100 metres from our front door with at least 3 species of bats using the old chalk mines by obelixx

Lawn too healthy

do you do a "Chelsea chop ? if so what plants !

falls over. I will give it a go. I agree - sedum responds particularly well to the 'Chelsea chop'. i tought I might try my perennial sunflowers (helianthus?) this year but they are not tall enough yet! Ok Sedum chopped. Made a lot of stuff by Samie Cain
