Perennial weeds
I have a large plot with a substantial perennial weed problem. I'm okay with the weeding part but I'd like to know the best way to compost the vast quantities I dig out. I originally put them into a separate open composting area but am building up by rmenmuir@btinternet.

Clearing overgrown area
way with a garden fork, but is there an easier way? Any ideas will be really useful. A digger would just chop up the roots of perennial weeds which will then regrow a hundred-fold from the bits! Depends what sort of weeds they are. Excluding light by Gardenqueen

Using vinegar to kill weeds
My sister-in-law needs to regain control over her garden and she has a lot of annual and perennial weeds growing in the beds. She doesnt want to use chemical weedkillers because of the wildlife in her garden (badgers and foxes). Ive researched by Tim Burr

compost heap out of control
and transfer all the good stuff and ditch the rubbish. any ideas please Depends on the weeds. Annual weeds are fine but the compost heap would need to reach a high temperature to kill off perennial weeds and that just isn't practical for the average gardener by alexthewinelady

Weeds and compost!
thoughts would be appreciated.   I don't compost weed seeds or the roots of perennial weeds  - I cut them off and  they go into a tub of water to rot.  Otherwise weeds all get composted. The problem with home composts is that they don't generate sufficient by Rosie27

Soil disposal
can help it. Try not to put it in the compost heap or any roots of perennial weeds will shoot next year and seeds will germinate. The processes of decay will kill the living grass and weeds, eventually. The weed seeds will however remain in the soil by Jo Stephenson

Weeding - a forgotten skill? Discuss ....
. And on this board we're often asked to identify plants which turn out to be weeds and which I would have pulled out at the two-leaf stage or before.  Of course, being able to identify which are weeds and which are our seedlings or precious perennials is one by Dovefromabove

Growing Under Plastic Sheeting
black sheeting would surpress them but that has not happened. Why is this? Any help appreciated Andrew Many will have recently germinated from weed seeds in the soil because the sheeting has helped warm the soil up.  Others will be perennial weeds like by Andrew Kenneth
