Ornamental grasses
to be? In my own garden I use ornamental grasses but plant them along with irises and crocosmias to give a sort of semi-formal look. My reason for this is that I have an area of short mown lawn neatly edged and surrounded by perennial borders. My 'semi by christopher2

I have a border about 6 feet wide and roughly 18 feet long. It has been established long before I arrived and includes hundreds of snowdrops, many perennials such as veronica, pelagoniums, london pride, sedums, comfrey etc etc , ferns and a few by nightgarden

council recycled compost
, that most gardeners only send to council tips the stuff they cannot or will not compost themselves - perennial weeds, weedkilled material, nails, wooden slats etc.   In due course most of this stuff woud compost well ( well, not the nails!), but needs a very by peter privett

, I think it is Erysimum Bowles Mauve - a perennial wallflower.    They have a very long flowering period. I'm fairly certain that we're looking at Hesperis Matronalis aka Sweet Rocket - a native wild flower.  At that height and with that growth habit by Robot

What is your kind of garden?
with their own little circle of earth around them, but they have to keep weeding. I like a mixture of shrubs,annuals and perennials and climbers for all seasons, with a small patch for a few veg.. There's never a time with no colour in my garden, even by Gardening Grandma

and perennials. I suppose you could water your artificial turf or your patio to clean it. Your choice, but it just feels wrong. And it never smells right...I love the smell of grass when its just been cut, makes me sneeze, but I love it, or after a shower. You by claire

Home-made compost
including weeds and (perennial weeds which I soak in water for about 4 weeks before adding), also comfrey leaves, cardboard boses and at least 6 scrunched up sheets of newspaper everyday which is taken from the base of my two large parrot cages so by Pamela Croft

Talkback: Bank holiday gardening jobs
a good home with me. Watering is a top priority as the long, hot, dry spell is threatening the health of a lot of the perennials like primroses, primulas and epimediums I have divided this spring. I am keeping an eye on the potatoes now up by lazygardner
