Help Please!
Hi, I am a completely novice gardener. We have a small back garden which is mostly lawn, and have neglected it forn the past three years. It has a couple of established shrubs, but the largest bed is mostly weeds! I really want to invest some time by JojoRose

Starting from scratch
work.  Clumps of rushes and horsetail both front and back. Hello Warthog, In my veg plot I have had to remove rubble, black polythene and many perennial weeds. The previous occupiers tended to lay new soil over the weeds and plant on top by Warthog

undeveloped land beyond my boundry fence, so I cannot access this area or apply weed killer to land which is not mine. Apart from weeding regularly, what can I do?  I am concerned about any possible effects on my home should it come up as far as the house by Pinklepurr

Talkback: Ground elder
tried it? I cleared a bed of old roses and herbaceous perennials of ground elder by planting geranium endressii - probably "wargrave pink".It grows so rampantly that it will smother and kill most weeds.Even nettles struggle to compete with it.It would by juniorbayleaf

Talkback: Rich pickings
your life easier in the long run. Also, I would advise you not to put those perennial weeds on your compost bin. Get rid of them some other way (we burn ours).Good luck Surplus lettuce (and other salad) leaves? They make excellent "spinach". Steamed by Lauren W

What did you do in your garden today?
't usually much to worry about where we are from now on.... It looks lovely. My daffodils are well over and my tulips are on the way out (Dordogne). Today and for the unforeseeable future it will be weeding! Here's one I did earlier!   I've been potting up by LeadFarmer

weed, plant or veggie?
by the wind, animals etc. to the extent of a patch of our lawn being full of parsnips! so i don't want to assume this plant is a weed and just dig it up to find it was actually something edible. i don't want to leave it if it is a weed as it's taking water by Mizz

Talkback: Digging and not digging
well if there is too muck space around its roots. However, I hope you have dug out the perennial weeds (and every bit of root) before you rotavated it, otherwise one weed root will multiply into hundreds. Aletta, the nutrients in the soil come from what by Gardening Green-horn
