My Castor Oil plant is dying
We have an established Castor Oil Plant which has suddenly started to die back in great chunks.  The whole plant has taken on a pale green hue rather than the darker green that it normally has.  To me it looks as though it's had too much water so by The Bird Lady

Ricinus Communis (Castor Oil Plant)
. You dont need to do anything. Ricinus do not need their tips pinched out. Dont forget that they are very tender and should not be planted out until the end of May. When you pot them on you can bury the stem upto the first seed leaves which will get rid by inezhardie

Castor oil Seedling
I have been trying to grow a castor oil plant from seed. It has it 2 first true leaves and is about 8 inches tall and now it appears that it is trying to flower. I would like to cut this flower head off but it appears to be coming out of the top by kate1123

mosquitos breeding in the rainwater butt
low to allow a tap in the bottom.  i've read that a layer of oil or soap on the top would prevent the larvae from breathing, but i don't think that will be too good for my plants.   I,ve used cooking oil and it does work. It forms a film over the top by rosa rugosa

over wintering strelitzia in greenhouse
temperature in the greenhouse ? I keep my bird of paradise in an unheated conservatory over winter -  keep watering to a minimum and it should be ok . We have a little oil heater that we use if the temperature gets really cold as I overwinter lots of plants by mlcandrjl
