their disgusting larve off the Lily leaves and squash them, this is even after spraying the plants with the proper spray. I live in France - outskirts of Paris and have this beetle everywhere in my garden. They particularly like my hollyhocks. We live in Hungary by Sara Miller

Talkback: Sowing broad beans
plants...I can't wait, still digging trenches and beds though :-( the taste is wonderful. when young you can eat them raw, when "ripe" blanche them, remove the skin, don't use salt cos like with lentils it makes the skin go tough.try a sandwich by BillinghamPlottter

Best tasting early peas
last year - Purple Pea. Apart from the latter the others grew well from seeds sown early March, must be the soil and being sheltered but pea's and beans do really well in my garden. We had a couple of very chilly nights too after they were planted out by Verdun

Tomatoes
Does it hurt to cover baby leaves when planting tomatoes You should only plant up to seed leaves when potting on tomatoes, or most plants, for that matter. However, tomatoes can put out extra roots from the stem, so other folk may well tell you by John Reynolds

Unheated/uninsulated greenhouse
I have various plants in greenhouse, lavender, penstemons, nicotiana, canterbury bells, that are quite happy, though not very mature (hence being in greenhouse) With the severe frosts forecast how can I protect the plants further. Limited funds by Tinker Christmas Bell
