horsetail weed
significant problem any more. My mum used to pour boiling water (usually excess from the cabbage or potatoes for Sunday dinner) over any weeds that ventured into our back yard and it worked a treat. No weed surely can survive being cooked at 90 odd degrees C by fran6

Alternative Gardening
as if I was mad.  When it was all finished we just dug it over and started layering again ready for this Summer and the compost is fantastic.  You can do the same in any place... Even grown potatoes under straw. Incredible! Ah. So large transplants by summerpots

seaweed
've also dug it into veg beds and into the GH bed, tomartoes love it, as do potatoes. Depending on the weather it breaks down fairly quickly. You can also make a liquid feed from seaweed. I tie up a couple of bags, punch holes in the bags and immerse by blair barnett

underground slugs
Sound more like cutworms than slugs. the only slugs in Britiain that live underground are keeled slugs and they mainly eat things like potatoes. small slugs live under the soil as for this is where the eggs are to be found, and its the small slugs that do by Sarah Garrett

Free offers and discounts
to be dispatched until September but I was aware of that date when I ordered.  They are ok, will replace if you ring up and moan, I do find they can take their time, especially with things like first early potatoes, mine didn't arrive until end of march last year by David Williams4

not dovefromabove, just a person causing mischief, why is this person doing this? Because they are a muppet The person who was trying to impersonate Dove has also posted on the thread about potatoes. His comment there says "...you might ask Jon Cob about that by wrinkly1

Large polytunnel and beds and no clue where to start
to dig them out you will be able to trace these runners and remive the worst of the problem. It may take a year to remove the weed problem though. I would suggest trying potatoes in the outside beds as these can out compete a lot of weeds. Inside by LOUISE5

Planning for ground frosts
remember was the night of 4 June.  Lots of people lost their beans.  I was really lucky and saw the late weather forecast and put sheets of newspaper over the potato shoots. The first frost of Autumn is usually in half-term week. by bcosergio
