great tit. It was lovely to watch - but I didn't envy her having to do her day job on top of feeding her chick!Dan Kelly - that's really sad. Badgers are known to predate bumblebee nests, especially in dry weather when the worms they usually feed on hide by wilscombe

Sparrowhawk dilemma
predation pressure. As the male does most of the hunting in the early days, smaller birds are targets but once the young are old enough to be left by the female she'll target pigeons and doves that last the family a bit longer.  In previous gardens I've used by jean riley

I put out saucers with bran dot them around the garden then at night rubber gloves on and go collecting they head towards the bran and its much easier to pick them up - then they go down the drain!! Hedgehogs and birds are also predators of slugs by smokeyjack

, it is loss of habitat. Garden hedges are too often ripped out and replaced by fencing - not everyone realizes that hedges are not only possible nesting sites (for all sorts of birds) but the best refuge from predators. This coupled with the trends for hiding by Paul Narramore

it is cold, cool when it is hot, hide it from predators and parasites and are a useful byproduct from its liquid diet. Many sap-suckers have the problem of sucking so much food to get enough protein to grow that they have to find some way of getting rid by caitlin

, and then 'milking' them for their honeydew. I know they do this on other plants, too, and the ants protect the aphids from predators in the process. I also agree with Gail... in many ways I'd rather enjoy paeonies in other gardens rather than give them space myself by peony

your frog, it's very unlikely that it would have died from winterkill so early. Is it easy to get in and out of the pond? Was it harmed - could it have been attacked by a predator? I don't want to alarm you, but if you find more dead/lethargic frogs by i grown my own
