Ants on my cucumber plants
at the root of our cucumber plant last year. It did not seem to make any difference. Fruit were untouched and the plant remained healthy.  Ants are known to farm aphids. They feed off the honeydew aphids excrete and in return protect the aphids on the plant by Natasha Baker

a shock! We used to manage without them & can now. thought the sticky solution was an excellent organic idea - have just tried it using a piece of tree band (for protecting against insects).Seems to have collected quite a lot of the little beasties by valerie1

's actually best to leave it until spring. The old growth will help protect the crown. I'd leave it til spring. Top growth does offer a bit of protection to the base. I always cut mine back in March/April when I see the new growth just pushing through. I also by jackie frost

't be up until next spring. Harvest the seed just as they're starting to go hard and have darkened in colour, and protect the sown seeds from mice. And just remember that even the tiny ones take a fair number of years to flower. Thanks for the info.  I by Patsy2

scale insects
cheekymonkey68, ladybirds and birds are the best and cheapest way to get rid of scale insects. The outer shell usually protects the scale insect from insecticides, so there's no point in spraying (this could also harm other wildlife). You can pick the insects by cheekymonkey68
