Winter mulching
Could anyone advise a relative beginner on mulching perennials for winter. Should the crowns of tender plants be covered or just the bases, and if so must the mulch be removed for spring? Thanks for any advice. If you're mulching in order to protect by lilly3

Wintering Fuchsias
the winter. I should say that they were all labelled as hardy: Tom Thumb, Genii, and Delta's Sarah. I would hate to lose them. Would a cold greenhouse be enough protection or should I find spaces in the borders? Despite the fact they are classed as hardy by diggingdoris

Asparagus
down away from the crown.     I'd probably give them a good mulching with some well rotted manure or good quality compost to give them a bit more protection and help keep weeds down.   I planted them about two weeks ago in raised beds and planted by Dave's beds

Tree Ferns
Does anyone know anything about tree ferns??  I have a magnificent example which has always produced loads of large fronds every year, but last year only a few tiny fronds appeared (the trunk is about 4ft tall).  I always protect it from frost by Rozzy

What's eating my plants
. The acuba, cape fuchsias, buddleja have all taken a battering for a start, any ideas what it might be and how I protect them? has to be caterpillers plus aphids.. need to spray or take cuttings... by obsidian52

any frost protection with it. I have been keeping water it recently. Maybe need more water. Thanks. Why do you think it does not need frost protection? It certainly looks like frost damage to me! What area do you live in? I thought the plant had by maggienewgardener

Fruit tree fans or espaliers
a day and I could easily protect it in the winter with fleece. Please help. Does it have to be in this position? Most fruit trees want plenty of sunshine to fruit well, and won't be happy on your fence. by Yorkie in Exile

Gunnera manicata
Hi everyone now the winter is setting in what do i do with my Gunnera manicata? The leaves have died back and unsure as what i am supposed to do with it. Any help would be most welcome Thanks Use the leaves to protect the plant.  It will survive by pash2

still very cold
i have noticed despite the cold weather new shoots are still appearing up out of the ground, so to protect them from the everlasting cold weather we are having at the moment i cover them with a home made cloche ,i take a coke or any plastic bottle by colin tumber
