Scottish Clematis
to be the main one which seems to thrive (rampant!).  I have a 'Polish Spirit' (a dark purple)  - (Group 3 pruning I think) which I only planted last year and which took off and flowered really well.  Overwintered well in the period of very low temps.  Even had by Percy-Grower

Talkback: Plants for bees
early on, and Sedum for late forage before the Ivy flowers. You are right Habitataid, I have the Mahonia and I have seen bees on the flowers of this plant in November! I'm sure I read somwhere about 10 years ago that bees love blue & purple plants by Lindy

The very best variegated herbaceous n perennial plants....and do you like em?
orange flowers in summer but right now and through to late autumn it is a bright, clean-lined beacon in its partially shaded position. Variegated polemoniums too....why have them just for their flowers when the foliage is so good. Variegated lavenders by Verdun

When to plant seeds?
be great. It has been a miserable year for seedlings. It will depend on the type of seeds, you can sow biennials now, hardy annuals can be sown in the autumn for early summer flowers. It is too late for tender plants but if you have a cold frame you could by Mandy2

Flowers in small pots!
My daughter has asked me to provide some bright flowers in 3 inch pots for her wedding.  It's at the end of June, so June/July flowering. She wants 150 or so (doesn't ask much does she?) so I know I'll have to plant/sow about 400 pots to get 150 by Whatalottie
