Hops
plant that is so easy to grow. An added bonus is that the bees and butterflies love them and blue tits and robins enjoy the seeds in the winter. I have the hop plants clambering up an apple tree and up my pergola. They die down in the winter and new by auntie betty

Climbing Ivy
to it in the late summer (to avoid disturbing nesting birds - it's a favourite spot for robins, spotted flycatchers and blackbirds). Or, if you've got the space you could trim it every 2 or 3 years instead of every year - that'll give it the chance to produce by Labradouble

Feeding blackbirds
, the blackbirds have no trouble getting onto them - although the young blackbirds take some time to work it out. At the moment, the robin is trying to see everything off to protect "his" food.   I always do the bird watch, but the last couple of years not seen by Peta

New border with complications?
about acicidy or alkalinity.  If you want something reddish, try a photinia Red Robin.  Keeping it pruned will control its size and encourage the production of fresh red shoots through the growing season. Thanks, I already have several photinia's dotted by SandLake

It's about 1.8m up from the ground, north facing, very protected with a bambooo growing over the opening and a mature ceanotus arching over it.  Crab apple in front which birds often hop onto. Many blue tits, sparrows, robins and wrens in our garden by Jess is in the Garden

it in the ground now,  it needs a short blast of cold weather. I also keep the soil moist until shoots appear than I keep the area from drying out, from then on until harvest in late summer or when shoots start to die back. Robin, you don't say where you got by Robin6
