Eradicating ivy
My garden has been overtaken by ivy, and it's now creeping it's way over all the brickwork of house and garage. We've tried every year to get rid of it, but it comes back all the more determined to take over! Any ideas? Hi Abbie, try Roundup by Abbie2

Garden Patio Ideas
some great ideas to create a stylish patio area. I think this one is touting for business. Me too.  I like my terrace to look like part of the garden and not part of the house that someone forgot to put a roof on. obelixx by Earl20

Talkback: House sparrows
In the eighties I used to stop counting at 20 when the sparrows descended on my garden. The wild patch og groud at the back of my garden was bought and tidied up by my neighbour. Loss of habitat meant loss of sparrows till about three tears ago by happymarion

Ivy or not?
I was considering growing ivy up the hut to cover it, protect it a little from the elelments, maybe keep some water out! give the birdies some food as the back garden is slabs and chips unfortunately. Looking for the positives and negatives by gcowen

Windows, the door and the roof vent are open in my conservatory as well as the connecting double doors to the lounge. The plants of salvias, cosmos and nicotiana which I've grown from seed for the front garden display are in pots lined up by scruff

Lady Banks rose
and has clusters of white roses in May. It has been in my garden for only two years but has already climbed onto the roof of the pergola. Because the stems are quite soft and thornless, I've been able to train it around the pillar. However, most by Gardening Grandma

The Swifts are Back
in central Norwich we were woken by the scream of swifts every summer morning - we miss them here as we don't have the sort of roofs they nest in. Nutcutlet, when we were with you on Monday I noticed housemartins swooping low after insects over  the rapefield by donutsmrs

I live in a suburb in a country town with plenty of large trees and my garden has shrubbery and a bird bath. Yet we seldom hear birdsong and if I put out fat balls and bird feeders, there are no takers. (We don't get rats and mice either, which is a by Gardening Grandma

Talkback: Living with lichen
.? We have a witch hazel tree in our garden which usually flowers just before Christmas (after all of the leaves have fallen) through until the end of January; sometimes longer. We have just noticed that it has started to flower in earnest and the leaves by Doug Ovenden
