Rhododendron bugs
not worked and she hasnt a clue what it is or how to get rid of it.  Any ideas? Many thanks They're scale insect. They suck sap and excrete sugar, and this drips onto the top of the leaves and mould grows on it, hence the black leaves. Spray with Provado by wethergirl

My houseplants have scale - please help!!!
Provado ultimate bug killer as there will be no chance of it affecting bees.  Systemics are taken up by the plant and go into the sap which the scale insects feed on.  It is the only guaranteed way to completely clear a bad infestation. thank you Bob, how by Ligularia

crispy black edges to some of my plants' new leaves
mould I've ever seen.   It was fine last year, bit of scale insect but not a major problem.   This year, looks like it's been down the pit!   So I chopped the tops off yesterday, left the three main stems with two sprouting leaf nodes each.   So now by freshairfanatic

, or some sort of scale insect. Nothing to do with chickens though. Thanks for quick reply. I noticed this on my standard bay the other day - it wiped off easily and I washed the trunk down.  No sign of anything else happening to it at the moment but I by Charliep

it on my rhodo, azalea or pieris before, but have had it on my camellia. Sooty mould develops on the surface of leaves when sap, or honeydew, drips down onto the surface from sap-sucking insects above. Scale insect is the usual culprit.  Sheddy, take a look by sheddy

My bay tree's leaves have gone yellow. What can I do to rectify this.

What is on this apple tree?
stiff brush, I'm afraid. There is a list of sprays available here. Very similar sort of thing is Oyster scale. Just as hard to get rid of too. The white is a waxy substance which protects the insect from the outside. Water based sprays cannot get through by pipsqueak2
